Hooray...the pAHRotai veNpA seen here!
Balaji,
Good one.
The context of "silambu" in the second adi is not
clear. Is it "cilappathikAram"?
You used to post Tamil font version of your poems, what happened to that policy?
I was requesting folks to post
txltd verison *also*.
HWat is that "pala vagaip peNkaL"...?
What are the various of categories of ladies?? ;-)
I thought a veNpAvalan liked only one
category of ladies, the highest class...;-)

Babu, how could it be ignored...when you are
trying to make a not-so-meaningless statememt?
Balaji,
I was away to teh Grand Canyons over the weekend.
paHRodai veNpA is any veNpA over 4 adis.
kuRaL veNpA = 2 adi
chindhiyal veNpA = 3 adi
[a chindu (a short person) is slightly taller than a kuRaL (also a hort person) : not just as adjectives but as names]
veNpA = 4 adi
pAHRodai veNpA= greater than 4 adis and less than 12 adi. If a thanichchol occurs it must occur at
every alternate adi as does your veNpA.
More than 12 adi apparently falls under kali veNpA
category (SivapurANam by maNickavAsakar).
I have not forgotten your suggestion to open an AsiriyappA thread...
I will do it this week with posting of teh rules.
Please bear with me.

Babu,
Glad that somebody is anxious about the inactivity in this thread...
I was busy with compiling the rules for AciriyappA which should be released soon.
Why don't you throw a challenege to the lowly
pAmarans from Tamilakam...? ;-);-).
I think Balaji took the lead in coming up
with a paHRotai veNpA.
For a change, we could get into the an-thAthi
mode for sometime and connect up.
When I posted a smple veNpA for marutham thiNai as part of the intro to akam, some people
raised issue with the appearance of the pA too
male-oriented. I did not point out at that time that it was totally opposite:
95+ percent of akam poems are all by a thalaivi
or by someone like her thOzi or ceviliththAy who
express feelings from the thalaivi's point of view!
And my observation is that most kavithais
composed by men today hardly express the woman's
perspective.
So I feel that we may have an an-thAthi where
male and female poits of view alternate with the veNpAs. This should be challenging.
Of course we have to establish the protocol to
facilitate maximum participation and avoid confusion.

anthAthi maadhiri vachukkalaam, but i am skeptical about it being about a certain topic.. for one, i find it difficult to write about a thalaivi waiting for thalaivan;-) probably because i don't have much background in reading such stuff, and my writing has always been based on contemporary situations.

About this thalavi business, I did not mean that we restrict ourselves to the calssical scenatrios...I simplyu menat that we compose poems that express female feelings...i.e.as if a female composed the poem. It could be anything decent...:-).
I hope that has helped in clearing the confusion.

chandra: saw ur postings in the test thread, on aasiriyappa. please start a thread, but don't post the rules there. please send me the rules, so that i can make it into a html file, upload it to forumhub.com and give it a link from top, so that it will serve as a document and not get squashed in old responses. or if u have it as a html file, that too is fine. my email id is in the handle (please send it as an attachment).

I had some other ideas also for proceeding further:
1. anthAthi proposal as before.
2. games like using a word with multiple
meanings.
3. translating some nice quotations of
poets such as Tagore etc (some of which I have collected )
into veNpA etc.
A sample:
"WE, the rustling leaves, have a voice that answers the storms, but who are you so silent?"
"I am a mere flower."
-- Rabindranath Tagore, "Stray Birds"
4. or any thing that the rest of the can think of...:-)

Yes, chandra, the Tagore quotation veNpA idea is also nice. Tagore is the greatest poet IMO and my favourite quote is
"I love my God because He gives me the freedom to deny him"
I will try and write veNpa on both these shortly.

Balaji,
I have read it just now.
It looks great with all that underlining etc.
Thank you very much.
I feel that some rearrangements need to be made.
Also I need to add an example for 'iNaik kuRaL Aciriyam".
Chandra
Babu,
That statement about God by Tagore sounds like
something from the Russell-Whitehead discourse on logic; very interesting.
That flower quotation's ending supplies a nice
IRRAdi for a veNpA.
I came across anotehr quoatation of Tagore's from "Stary Birds" but
did not record it; it goes something like:
"the dew drop on the leaf said to the lake below:
"I am drop of water on a leaf; but you are a drop of water too...but a big one".
Do any of you have the exact quotation?
- From: balaji (@ schubert.crhc.uiuc.edu)
on: Sat Mar 6 23:01:32
chandra: i guess u mean stray birds and not stary birds. it is available here:
http://eldred.ne.mediaone.net/rt/stray.htm
the quote u r looking for is:
"YOU are the big drop of dew under the lotus leaf, I am the smaller one on its upper side," said the dewdrop to the lake. "
