Babu,
That first veNpA is a fast one like a kaliviruththam.
Of course when you use 2-asai sIrs only in a vENpA,
you are bound to get that type of cadence.
kataichchIruk kERRa kataiyennum chollin
thotaichchIrmai yaikkaruthith thAnE - itaippatta
chIrellAm thANtich chiRan-tha itamvittu
mARiyathOr cholpEr muthal.
thotai = placement of words and sIrs in ethugai and mOnai
thotaichchIrmai = fitness for thotai
[to enable "itai" to be a thanichcol which requires ethugai
with first sIr which can be offered only by "katai" not by "muthal"]

so chandra, have I passed or failed the exam ? :-)

Babu,
I only called this a "challenge" not an exam...;-). You of course successfully managed
the challenge, Babu.
The "katain-thaaL kanavaal" veNpA was real nice;
You can see that using good mOnai also has
helped.
With your second veNpA, the mOnai is between
the first and second siRs only of the first 2 adis.
"
kadaikkaN karummai vazin-thOda aaRaay
udaiyakaRRi uchchaththil mUzgi - idaiyOdu "
As I said before, this mOnai does not take
one far. 4-sIr pAs (whether veNpA or AsiriyappA) have predominantly mOnai
involving sIrs #1 & #3; else #1, #2 & #4.
That is, you need to make the last two connected
up. Having just #1+#2 is not enough.
You can see this for yourself by reading
the AuvaiyAr veNpAs or ThirumurugARRuppadai appendix veNpAs.
as I said before, teh exceptions are when the sentence itself flows naturally.
In general the firts adi is the key to
getting any pA off to a good start.
It need not be only through mOnai.
for example:
n-elluk kiRaiththan-Ir vAykkAl vazhiyOdip
pullukkum AngkE posiyumAm - thollulalgil
n-allAr oruvar uLarEl avarporut(tu)
ellArkkum peyyum mazhai.
Here, only the second adi has noticeable
mOnai. The first adi
has no mOnai. But still flows well.
I have observed that "thogai" (vERRumaithogai, vinaiththogai etc.)
phrases need to
be handled properly to avoid hindrance to the
flow. They probably cause difficult flow because such phrases usually have too few vowels which act as lubricants, so to speak.
Your second veNpA starts with such a thogai phrase: katakkaN karumai = kataikkaNNin (or kataikkaNNil uLLa) + karumai
"kataikkaN karumai vazhin-thOda aaRaay" ...
whereas, for example, ...
"kataikkaNNil aaRaayk karumaivazhin- thOda"...
or, even if you wnated
"kataikkaN karumai vazhi-thaaRaay Oda"...
would make a big difference.

Chandra, thanks for that. I understand what you say, and when I wrote that "kataikaN" veNpa I know it did not flow properly, but somehow I could not fix it. Your two alternatives are great, that makes a lot of difference.
Where is Balaji ?
And what is the next "challenge" ? :-)

I wonder where Balaji is, too? or AruLarasan
for that matter.
As for the next challenge, may be it is your
turn...?

okay chandra, why dont we write a patriotic nErisai veNpa ( I am sick of these sentimental love pAs, though they come to me naturally :-))
*ALL* the sIrs in the veNpa should have monai with the sound 'pa' (for 'paattu').

Balaji,
Thanks for your report in veNpA form on the "activities" you were
engaged in while the rest of us were all busy with other things...;-) We were worried that you might have lost your way following some "ezhil uruvam" or other.
Welcome back!
It was nice by the way. Could you clarify what the
IRRadi is intended to convey? I suppose you mean
"what else comes before...? The is not
clear.
What are those cryptic characters that accompany your publication, Balaji? Is there a "shadow veNpA"
hidden there, for some "ezhil miku kataikkaNgaL" only? ;-)
I think I have pulled your legs enough...
Babu,
So you mean that every sIr must begin with some
pakaram uyirmey or other (i.e., any of the 18 uyirmeys pa, paa, pi..etc). Am I right?
Sounds real challenging.

SPS,
Your maiden veNpA is super! We welcome you in to
the field!
It is very cohesive, the whole veNpA forms one
integral sentence. The adis also match in measure
and good ethugai too!
Great Job!

Balaji,
As for those cryptic chars, I think you are
trying to paste the Tamil text area also. I wonder
if web browsers can display that. Can you help us
in this regard? If one could do that, that would
be lovely. I do have Murasu app running but
cannot have your veNpA displayed in Tamil font.
And congratulations on getting one more excellent veNpA composer on board. That is wonderful of you. This means a lot to me personally as it makes me feel that we can indeed reach our goal of reviving this wonderful and invaluable tradition. Let us infect even more hidden talents!
I salute thee!

chandra, thanks for ur words.
about the tamil text, of course, u can see veNpA in tamil font. if u have netscape,
in options, define user-defined font to be that of anjal (anjal and inaimathi), and set ur font to be user-defined.
if u have explorer, u need to open anjal, and change the fonts to user-defined.
if u have problems, please send me an email and i can help u out.
babu: yes, pari of course means horse, just that fighting like a horse seems to be an odd simile.
