Hey,
I strongly believe that tamil language has its own roots and is independent from any other language in the world. But I now have a doubt. Is the word "kamam" in tamil is derived from Sanskrit or not. Because in sanskrit too we have "kama".

//This is to be blamed on the Thamizh Scholars who chose to use 'Dravidan' for the unity of Thamizhans and Thamizh descends and ended up with plain TN under India, don't you think?//
In Skrt, they refer to Tamil as "Dravida Basha".
Southern Brahmins are known as Dravida Bramanas.
The word "Dravida" was also used by Tagore in his song "Jana Kana Mana".
It was chosen by Dr Caldwell and other linguists to refer to the Dr family of languages.
It was chosen by the DK, DMK and AIDMK as part of their party names.
Tamil scholars, I doubt, have the strength to resist these developments. Except for a few, the rest are in fear. If they write that Skrt is derived from Tamil, many of them might be chucked out of their jobs!! or in other ways, harassed.They might be denied their coconuts usually given them at the templeS .

lol true, but I think Periyar started DK to united Thamizhans and Thamizh descends but he must have also known the root of it. Parties like DMK ..just in TN having a name like that is useless. I don't know when these parties are going to change the name from Dravidar to Thamizhar. Anyway Caldwell probably wanted to make a new name for all of the languages that formed from Thamizh but sadly I don't think it should have been done. For the fact that Dr. Caldwell proved that Thamizh is a different language and Thamizh is old and better than Sanskirit. Yet using such 'sanskirit' word to describe the Thamizh language and it's family is a pure disgrace. Maybe and hopefully TN realizes anyway.

If Iran, Europe and the word Aryan came from the root word 'ari' which is Thamizh and which mean 'to know.' I just have a little confusion, why would such meaning apply to the people of these region? Did they call themselves like that? Or it was made to be called by someone else?....
Next thing is that u mentioned 'hindu' neri, you do know that Hindu doesn't apply to Thamizhar Sivaniya neri and Maliya neri and btw is 'Saivam' Thamizh or Sanskirit? Oh and would you please tell me the origin of Sivaniyam if u can? and along with Maliyam. I also like to know whether if u are a Thamizh professor and whether if you have written any book(s).

//Did they call themselves like that?//
They called themselves knowledgeable.
//Hindu doesn't apply to Thamizhar Sivaniya neri and Maliya neri //
My point was that "neRi" may be used to mean religion, but it can also mean other neRi which are not religious in nature; so you have to use it carefully so that it conveys the intended meaning.

//'Saivam' Thamizh or Sanskirit?//
Sivam is Tamizh; and Saivam is derived from the Tamizh word Sivam. But Saivam is derived according to Skrt word-building style. It is like a Tamizh man wearing Skrt clothes!! Suppose you say "Saivism"....or Sivanism!! Siva is Tamil and -ism English. But you may consider Saivam a Tamil word or a word common to both Skrt and Tamil.
