Visu,
Probably U haven't read other books like Alai Osai(which ultimately won Sahithya Academy)....His portrayal of characters and time period in Thyaga Bhoomi was also brilliant....his ability to describe scenes(u can easily them grow in ur mind)...He is consider great not only b'cos of PS....
Apart from Hiostorical Novel Writer,He wrotw wonderfl, bold Editorials.Had an extremely good sense of humour(If u get a chance try reading his carnatic concert reviews)...His short stories were also very very famous these days...Ur question is valied if u have read the above mention works of kalki.

It's right.Though PS is the mosy famous writing of Kalki, his other works are equally good.He is really great. He wrote Parthiban Kanavu before Sivakamiyin Sapatham. But the story(Parthiban Kanavu)is like a continuation of Sivakamiyin Sapatham.
His short stories are wonderful.I've read many of them.I still search for his other works

Ram,
i had read almost all novels, short stories of Kalki. but people talk only about P.Selvan which is a historic novel with twists and turns with sweet lines which can be undestood by a normal tamilian.(i could not understand Alaioosai whe i read first time)
i raised the question bcos it came in latest kumadam issue.

Visu,
If u have read all his his novels U must have pretty much figured out the narrating skills of kalki.....I'm not saying he is the best ever for it is perception which varies from person to person....It is not his fault that many dont read his other works.....but his other works are equally enthralling IMHO

Can some kind soul please narrate the ending of Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan!! I am reading the english translation by C.V Karthik Narayan and he has not come out with last part yet so I am stuck at Adithya karikalan's death....it is very frustrating to wait for the publication of the last part....can some one please write about the ending????

Hi,
Like Ponniyin selvan, Alai Osai is also one of the best novels writeen by him. Even Kalki himself admired that ALAI OSAI will speak for years even after his death. It got translated into russian and sold 50,000 copies in just 3 days. It won saahitya academy award also.
Pls read the novel without fail and the characters surya, thaarini, seetha, soundara raghavan, rajinipur maharani, rajampet post office, Maatuvandi maniosai will not leave from ur memory throughout your life.
vaazhga kalki.....
regds,
Ravi kanth.

No doubt kalki is an extraordinary to imagine such big voluminous fiction. His tamil is simple and straight to appeal many.
How poetic he is in explaining the scene that the first meeting between Vandhi & Kundavai.....and more Vanathi calling 'yaanai paga!' from the sit out and a flash back.....ofcourse, a perfect film director's view!
Its a good blend of bravery, revenge, romance, eternal love(ideal), friendship, religions (tolerence), smart and clumsy rulers and so and so...
Its basis is simply a village folk story telling style...many times and for many happenings there won't be no head or tail.(No one knows who killed Karikalan finally and what's behind Nandhini's birth even though they are the very basis of the story......how clever Kalki is..!)
If you are a lover of romanticistic novels /stories its a perfect choice. My friend is a deep lover of P.S. I am wondering my friend...and every one who repatedly reading P.S. as they are simply far away from the cruel hands of realities (blessed to be)!
Won't anybody listen to Vannadasan, Ashokamithran....
