The font used by medianet.. friend is the same TSCII that I and ramaNi use. Forumhub admin suggests use of one single enconding, TSCII, for all tamil posting. Book lists and book reviews do serve a useful purpose, at least here in the U.S. They help sell books. They help people in a hurry to consider reading/buying books on the list. I agree that various book lists will bring with them the biases of their creators. But these lists can provide a kind of consensus on the books a literate society must be familar with. For instance, when selecting books for a local library, I set out to search for a list to begin with. Nothing was available at that time.
My purpose in starting this list was not to make it exclusive. Otherwise, I would have just listed 100 of my favorite books and claimed it to be the ultimate list. And I listed the books that I have actually bought, read and use as reference works constantly.
Rather than criticize the concept of a list or contest my selection, you could provide your own list of books that you think fits the criterion "100 best books of 20th century." That will expand our horizons.
BTW, the reason why you could not read Mr. Ghanesun's post is because he did not use the recommended TSCII font tags. Unless you set your default fonts in your browser to a TSCII font, you won't be able to read it in the browser. You will have to cut and paste. Also, Mr. Ghanesun's comments had nothing to do with your post.
Ramani, are you sure Mr. Ettappan is in North Carolina? He seems to be using a Pittsburgh ISP.

I am pleased with some of the recent responses here. These seem constructive. I have a rather long response to many here that deals with many aspects of the debate here. It is basically constructive and not abusive or any such thing.Will people be interested in reading it? Or should I just keep it to myself? It is a MSword document, about 2300 words.
