Who is better as a person? You can only choose one, eithir Kanaki or Madhavi...Is Kanaki really a pathini? Do we really need a kanaki temple?

ennavo..who cares abt egapathini virathan..people say Rama is an ega pathni virathan...
who cares abt that..
letz just stick with kanaki and madvi..
People should make big deal out of kanaki..She was a whimp..She came from a good family there for she had no choice but to be good...But mathavi was not like that..She could've gone and married/ had affair with any other guy after Kovalan's death but she didn't do that....
WHY PEOPLE SAY KANAKI IS PATHNI? WHY STATUE? WHAY TEMPLE???? hell with u indian people

Sweety,
You are discriminating against actress Madvi. Why can't we discuss her instead? :)
There was never a actress named kanaki. But there was an actress named after madvi. So madvi is superior! Ha!

Visu,
what about a bachelor pathinan? Will he be called zero pathini virathan? or chuzhi-pathini virathan or a muttai-pathini virathan?
Sweets always starts the funny threads :)

Kannagi:
got married at early ages. never had any physical relationship with kovalan. didnt correct/fight with husband. foolishly followed husband to other place. faught with king.foolishly curse all in maduraiates(exceptions) to die. went to heaven.
Madhavi:
born in kannigaiyar kulam. enjoyed kovalan and his property. after kovalans departure, stayed alone. gave birth to manimekalai who later bcome sanyasi.
only useless pattimanrams do the research:
kannagi or seetha or madhavi or mandothari.
dont ever follow nalayini or agaligai.
be the puthumaipen.

The legend said two different things about the women, well acutally just one: the women has the power even to distroy, if she wants to. But the way the people turned the story is that of a faithful women and that women allways has to carry the men, its her burden, and she has to love it. Well the usual staff if you ask me.

kaNNagi followed the maxim, "kallAnAlum kaNavan pullAnAlum purushan". In addition, she was the forgiving type, taking kOvalan when he came back migrated to pANdiya nAdu with him and gave him her cilambu to jump-start his trade. All these make her a virtuous woman. However, just as they say "oru kudam pAlukku oru thuLi visham" she spoiled everything in the end by burning a city along with the warriors, and whole bunch of animals. True, she asked the the fire Lord to spare children, elderly, brahmins, the virtuous, and chaste women. But the question remains: Should chastity seek revenge for a wrong done unto her? Despite this, her temerity needs to be idolized, but not worshipped.
As for mAdhavi, she was from the kaNigayar kulam and she decided to stay with kOvalan instead of straying (and against the advice of her mother). Did she knowingly commit an injustice to kaNNagi? or was only kOvalan at fault? Did mAdhavi just follow her fate? Remember after kOvalan left her she stayed single. That makes her a virtuous one too. She deserves to be idolized too. She is of the docile kind staying docile throughout.
Both kaNNagi and pAnchAli stayed true to thier husbands but were very vengeful when it was time to forget and forgive.

To SweetLankie ,
I have observed you in many of these forum topics and find that you are always against the ways of the society and its controversial topics. You only know how to criticise and condemn. Let me hear you praising any Indian ( Tamil in particular) leader or saint .
You say that you are a feminist in one forum topic and insult kannagi in the next. Its no wonder you gals are always below in the societical position us men. We should understand what the Silappadigaaram was wrote for. It was to teach women to be virtuos wives."She came from a good family there for she had no choice but to be good..." ...honestly, who will belive this crap ? Angulimala , a buddist saint, was a notorius murderer , but came from a very good family. So much for good people being forced !
About Chenguttuvan building a temple for her, I agree with you that it is idolatory, therefore wrong ( I am a strong Shaivate and pray to Lord Shiva only) but I think that he must be sooo shocked that such a thing did happen that he must have done so. From this, I derived that the story is true or else why would Kannagi, a Hindu woman was praised by Illangovadigal , a Jainist !He would have made the hero a Jainist woman too. Madhavi and her daugther Manimekalai were buddist and the legend Manimekalai was by a Buddhist author Saathanar. Surely , as a buddhists, he would hate Jainists and not use a Jainist's story her to his own.
I think that Kannagi is greater because Madhavi knew Kovalan was married, yet she seduced him to marry her. She must have been desperate for any husband or her mother would not have asked an old women to sell a chin and the buyer becomes her husband.
P.S gip , shut your mouth and stop talking about actress madhavi or else......
