I think its the most underated film in history of hollywood.Its brillant,good paced,a nice ending.

It is definitely a great movie and yes probably under recognised but it was nominated for a few oscars nevertheless. The performance of Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman is outstanding.
Someday a director like Maniratnam should remake this in Tamil. My suggestion for the lead role.
Rajinikanth as Morgan Freeman and Kamalhassan as Tim Robbins they both should act without make up.

Was there even a single female member in the cast? How can such a movie be taken in India? May be the poster that Kamal has on the wall can be that of Sridevi? To please the audience, there should probably be a "dream" duet song with Kamal and Sridevi. :-)
My 2 cents about the movie: I was told a lot about the movie before I watched it, but always wondered what can I expect so differently in a prison escape movie. But the immersive way in which the story proceeds is awesome. There are not many scenes that deviate from the main story line but still surprisingly there is no monotony. Definitely a movie worth watching!

well,in the movie,there was a sweet thing that director has left us to ponder with,did robbins kill his wife or not?
honestly,i cant make up,all i can do is guess...what do u guyz think?
abt the the director frank darabont,his new movie The Majestic is quite amazing,simple story with good acting from Jim carrey(one of his best so far) and good theme about communism in capitalistic america.

I've watched that movie a zillion times and I still love it. Morgan Freeman's narration is awesome. I like movies with narration. Other narrators I like are Tom Hanks and Om Puri. Amitab Bacchan is good at it too!

I have watched the movie, Shawshank Redemption, based on Stephen King's probably only non-horror novel by the same name. yes, it is definetely one of the best hollywood movies ever. i watched it when i was in Hong Kong 3 years ago. but now i am in India and i cannot get the vcd anywhere.

Rajnikanth as Morgan Freeman? you must be joking. Kamal will suit the role of the Old Man. As for Tim's role, Ajit or Vikram will be fine. Rajni is more a star than actor and he has his own style. No wonder he is known as Monarch of Style.

I'll rate it as the best movie i've ever seen.I can't seem to find the vcd of the movie anywhere in India.I have searched every Music World,Planet M store in delhi,calcutta,mumbai and many other pirated markets in lots of cities but still couldn't find the title anywhere.If any of u , find it please let me know immidiately.I'm ready to purchase it.

Hi SRK,
To your question if Tim Robbins killed his wife or not in the movie , the answer is NO
If u observe, there comes a character named Tommy (the person with sidelocks) and he says, another person has actually killed. When Tim reports this to Warden, Tim is put in solitary confinement for a month. Then the Warden asks Tommy, if he is ready to take oath and tell the real killer in the court to which Tommy says YES. Then the Warden gets Tommy killed!!!
