Russel crowe doesn't fit in to that role. His looks are very soft. I would love to see Mel Gibson in that role.

In the amphitheater scenes the lions were mostly
computer-generated. Does anybody have anything to say about that? I mean in terms of credibility?

This is the greates movie of all time. The special effects, story line, soundtrack, the actors, everything about it is amazing. Russel Crowe did an outstanding job of portraying strength, cunning, bravery, and tenderness all in one man. What more can a girl ask for. This is a damn good movie from beginning to end, and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to take a closer look at it.

THIS MOVIES GREAT.I am a pakistani so i dont say this stuff, but i love russel.He is great in this movie so perfect for the scenes, with a great manly voice.I especially like the end scene and when he turns aroound and says in his great deep voice,"I am Maximus..........".In front of the whole crowd.His voice is so good, i dont know how to describe it.It is not just deep but its like he doesnt even have a mouth and the voice comes directly from his throat.

Shekhar, I watched it in DVD. And it did'nt have much of the lion's scenes. I don't know if I missed few seconds attending phone or something contained these scenes. The DVD also containted making of Gladiator as well as the shots which were not shown n the theatres, with Ridley Scott's comment in the background. The only scene I remember with lions is the feeding scene in which they show the innocent look of a boy standing next to his father (or whoever) put in the Lion's cage. The scenes with the tigers are original and they showed that in 'the making '.
The computerised visual effect are mainly made use in showing the crowded collossium( bad spelling , i know) watching the games.

The movie is thrilling in each bit of it.
Very good direction, excellant settings, Russel Crowe :-), catching music, and good screen play.
Even those who do not like war moviee also will not get up from the seat once it starts. all time favourite Roman emperors story told again in a very exciting way.
Main attraction of the movie is Russel, the maximus. He has got very good voice modulation. Ridley Scott very clevery made use of him for the the tough look of a General, the will power of a gladiator, the powerful looks in the eyes, and what not.
And ofcourse the Roma dynasty.... always interesting to listen and watch.
Commodus is ofcourse worth mentioning too..
