any indepth french film resources perchance?? I'm looking for an old film in english subtitles about a handsome leading actor who plays a member of a small virtually bankrupt circus who is talked into competing as the "world's last great(est?) lover" (or something very close) contest held and run by a snobby powerful editor in chief of a leading magazine/TV show/media of some kind. the contestants have to have a romantic dinner with models in front of audiences, dance, etc... EVEN ONE REDICULOUS SCENE WHERE THE LAST 2 FINALISTS HAVE TO PULL DOWN THEIR shorts and let the judges view their 'manhood' (film's camera angle shows booty only ;-) who is selfish and power hungry control freak until as the winner of the contest he gets to choose whomever he wants to spend 2 weeks with him (her intent was one of the models participating in contest), naturally, he chooses her against her will on live TV thus she cant get out of it... it includes some nudity and sex scenes americans would refer to as 'soft porn', though really just typical french openness in cinema...

I'd love a copy also...I had one once, but it was erased (at least the last 15 minutes...)and if anyone can provide a tape or where to get one, let me know! Yes, it's cheesy, but the movie does something for me (whether dubbed or subtitled).

I am seeking a copy of this movie as well, and having no luck finding it anywhere. It is also known as: "Playmate" (1978) and also as:
"Ler Dernier amant romantique" (1978) and:
"Hombre objeto" (1978)

My turn-
My heart soared as I saw that you too, loved "The Last Romantic Lover". I have remembered this classic of mine passionately since HBO and a VCR in ~1979- the tape is long gone, but not my want. You truly need to have it in French, with English subtitles to be there in France with the Gypsies. I have not seen this movie for ~18 years, but it burns strongly on memory today. Where are you.....?

one of the scenes I remember in this film is when Dale Haddon is 'teasing' one of the contestants by feeling his biceps. she keeps making these really amusing squealing sounds as she fondles him: ooooo....eeeee...ah...ohhhhh..can I touch??? its a riot

I, too have been harboring a secret yen for The Last Romantic Lover having seen it (over a dozen times before the tape broke) when I was 16 yrs old.
I've seen both versions (on HBO) and the subtitled was much better.

my wife is looking for a copy. we used to have years ago but loaned it out, and the recipient died or moved away, and we forgot about it until recently. we watched it innumerable times - most enjoyable.

I can not believe that so many people have been searching for this movie. Well count me in. I would like to get my hands on this movie also. I was a teenager at the time it was out on HBO and I thought it was one of the best romance movies.

I tried montrealcineman@hotmail.com as suggested above. It works and fairly quickly (I think I received my VHS tape in about a week), but be aware that it is only available from them in French with no subtitles. I have studied some French and have seen it often enough so for me, it is not a problem, but if you really want the movie, it's an option. Personally, it was worth it!
