Resh, do something to improve that. Try to invest in your children in sports for the sake of the nation.Sachin sacrificed his education for sports and his parents obliged. Will you and me permit our children to play and train for 8 hrs a day.

Ous being a poor country, very few middle class parents can afford to do that.

Family support and finance is probably not the only issue. The stars who have emerged have all had good encouragement from families.
Sports bodies are useless. They just dont take care of the players. I could qoute a number of examples. The best case is that of Chandrasekhar after his accident. No other country would have treated him like that.
The people at the top are busy trying to fill their own pockets.
There is hope with the overall performance in sports having improved over the last decade.

I think wards can try their luck in individual desciplines, like chess, tennis(my favorite),
shooting, squash, athletics, where you can reach your peak with your hard work alone most times.
These are the fields Indians have excelled in the recent past.
O sorry, I left out 'car'thikeyan in racing.
Why select team gameswhere you need more than mere playing skills

There are a myriad reasons why we fail in sports/games - the main reason being our overall "fatalistic" approach towards life (blind gross belief in "destiny", "karma", "fate", that instills complacency in whatever we do), a certain amount of cynicism associated with our attitude towards people who work hard and come up in life (if I say I worked hard and cleared selections, the retort would be "so what? big deal, eh?", instead if I say "I never prepared for this exam - but on the day of the exam I somehow managed to score the marks", you are considered an amazing find) and a lack of dignity associated with any physically demanding profession
THe lack of success for Indians in the arena of sports/games is due to an overall sociological phenomena, that makes us all complacent trumpeting in an utopian world of a 5000 years old heritage that we have inherited
