Sad state of sports performance by Indians. What can we expect in this Olympics 2000?

We are only fielding 22 atheletes in spite of our 1 billion population. What is the participation of our business corporations in sports? Do they sponsor any of our atheletes? It seems like Cricket takes it all and the rest are left to fend for themselves.

If India is lucky, it may fetch a gold in Tennis doubles, a bronze in hockey, a silver in women's weightlifting and nothing more.

It is sad to hear that Malleswari Karnam is retiring because she is tired of critics who called her fat and a beer drinker. I wonder if this criticism motivated her to win the bronze or stopped her from winning the Gold.
