In the malayalam daily 'mathrubhumi'there was an article on 'pink feather method'which is 'claimed to be better than the D/L method. The article says that Pollock opined that the rule is better than D/L method for the rain interrupted one day matches.
It is a suggestion by one cricket fan named pink feather. He suggests that instead of one team playing the allotted 50 overs straight and the other team then chasing the score, the game should be divided in to two parts of 25 overs each. The first team bats for 25 overs and then the next team comes and bats for their 25 overs. After that the first team resumes from where it stopped and plays for another 25 overs and gets the final total. The second team has 25 overs more reach to get this combined target. The runs they made in the first 25 overs will be taken into account.
If the rain stops the play after both team playing their first 25 overs (say when the second team was on its 35th over)the scores at the end of 25 overs will decide the winner.
The merit of this suggestion is that if u get time to complete 50 overs, you can get a result. Now in D/L method it requires time for atleast 75 overs.( 50 for the first team and atleast 25 for the team batting second)
But this rule is also not perfect. Suppose that the team A scores 125/4 in its 25 overs and the team B makes 126 and gets all out on the last ball of the 25th over.If no further play is possible due to rain who will be the winner?
Any comments?
