DEAR FRIENDS,
Iam posting here a VERY SAD NEWS , about an Indian Girl Athlete,SEEMA ANTIL, who won a GOLD -MEDAL at the recently concluded world Junior Athletics championships.
She had taken a medicine for her cold and it contained a "BANNED" substance ! Hence she has been stripped of her gold medal !!
This is just the case with APARNA POPAT. Like wise Ms. KUNJURANI DEVI ALSO LOST HER GOLD MEDAL as her coffee contained "Banned Substance".
THIS IS SHEER TRAGIC ! Indian sports -Doctors need to be more informed about the list of banned items and should ensure that Indian athletes do not consume anything (including medicines) containing a banned substance. ò
These wonderful "ANGELS OF INDIAN SPORT " have unnecessarily lost their GOLD MEDALS, FOR THE FAULT OF THEIR COACHES /DOCTORS !

Antil loses medal on drug charges

NEW DELHI: India's only gold medallist at a World Athletic Championship, Seema Antil has tested positive for a banned drug and her golmedal has been withdrawn.

Seema, who won gold in discus throw event at the World Junior Athletic meet in Santiago, Chile, in October last year, however has got away with just a warning and has not been suspended.

"She consumed Pseudoephedrine, which is only a stimulant, and that too inadvertently. Therefore, there is no suspension, just a warning. But her gold medal will be taken back," Amateur Athletic Federation of India secretary Lalit Bhanot said over the phone from Kanpur.

Antil submitted that she took a medicine for cold on her way from Delhi to Chile and was not aware that the tablet contained any banned substance. A two-member panel comprising A K Banerjee and Rakesh Kaushal, constituted by AAFI, heard Antil's case and recommended that she be warned, Bhanot said.

The International Association of Athletic Federations had informed AAFI earlier this year that Antil's blood sample had shown presence of Pseudoephedrine in excess of prescribed amounts. Her B sample was tested which confirmed the conclusion, Bhanot said.
