He is indeed one of the Greatest Composers in Music History. I am in a process of collecting and learning his works (trying to !!!). This page is for posting information about references to audio clips of Dikshitar krithis so that it will be of much use to Dikshitar "fans" like myself. |

In the charanam of Nilotpalambikayai (MD, Kedaragaula) every other word begins with 'ka'.

among the many 'Group' krities of MD ( KamalambaNavavarana, Guruguhavibhakti etc. etc. ) is the Balambika set a valid group ?
I observed the following bAlAmbikE pAhi (manoranjani) , bAlAmbikAyAh param nahirE rE citta ( kanada) bAlAmbikayA kaTAkSitOham (sriranjani ) bAlAmbikAyai namastE ( natakuranji) ,bhajarE rE citta bAlAmbikAm ( kalyani ) bAlAmbikAyAh (kedaragaula) are there any other ??

Hi Isrgi :-)) Many of these group krities of MD are based on a common thread that MD himself used e.g. Lalitopakhyana, Shodasa Ganapati, Kmlmba Navaavarana, Navagraha etc. There are others that are being used afterwards to help group or classify his work. This Balambika set may be of this second kind but I could not find 9 (nava) krities only 6. This set is not mentioned in the site I redirected you to. Maybe your contact L.Powdval may have more details such as the location of the temples and special characteristics of their deities.

Two great MD Shankarabharanams are the obeisances to Shiva , AkshayalingaVibho and Dakshinamurte. Both these krities share the words Akshaya, Akshara, Arudha, Mula, Chidananda and the root of Shiksa. Both krities are generally related to SriVidya-Bijamantra. In contrast one of Tyagaraja's shankarabharanams is 'ManasuSvadhinamai' with the phrase 'mari mantra tantram ela' !!!
Of course another two fine MD S'Bharanams to Shiva's consort are SriKmlmbikaya(Kmlmba NV) and GirijayaAjaya(abhayamba NV). There are another 3-4 krities and also several NottuSvaras in Sbharanam. Tyg. also has probably another 15 or so krities.

I have notation for Balambikaya sri - Naattakurinji and baalambikaayam kaatakshi - Sri ranjani - I dont know the other krithis in this series :(
again, I have notation for Abhyaamba jagadamba - Kalyani and sri Abhayamba - Sri Raagam
If I remember right, I believe TNS has a cassette on Abhayaamba Navavarnam (could even be an AIR recording)
Are there 2 of them in KedaraGaula?
Would let you know when I find out about the Audio cassette :)

Abhayamba series Krithis are in the following ragas:
Kalyani, Chaamaram, bhairavi, Yadukula Khamboji, Kedaram, kedara Gowlai, shankaraBharanam, Sahaana and Sri Raagam
Nado - I am not able to confirm if baalaambika songs make a series of 6 or 8 or 9 ::(( Sorry :)
My understanding is that the Neelotpalaamba Krithis are 8 (?) in number and they are all composed in ragas ending with "Gowla" - now that is interesting - lakshman - would you have a list of Baalambika and Neelotpalaamba krithis?
