Hi all,
This is my first post in this forum. I have some
questions about Janya ragas of melakaratas with
prathi madyamam. Among various ragas Purvi Kalyani and Varali are sung more frequently as
they offer a lot more scope for alapana, neraval
and kalpana swarams. While there is no doubt that
ragas like Bhushawali, Amritavarshini, Mandhari,
Saraswati, Vijaynagari, Sunadhavinodhini, Mohanakalyani, Saranga, Hamirkalyani etc are beautifull these ragas are not sung with long alapanas, neravals etc. OTOH the ragas like Kambodhi, Bilahari, Begada, Kanada, bhairavi, madhymavati which have sudhha madhyamam are sung more frequently with long sessions of alapanas and swarams. They seem to have lot more compositions than those with prathimadyamam. What could be the reasons for this ?
My guess/theory is
Ragalakshanam of most of these ragas are revolve around the swaran Ma, in otherwords most of them
have Ma as their jeeva swaram. As a result they
are relatively limited with respect to eloborate
singing. What could be other reasons ?
Cheers
