He is indeed one of the Greatest Composers in Music History. I am in a process of collecting and learning his works (trying to !!!). This page is for posting information about references to audio clips of Dikshitar krithis so that it will be of much use to Dikshitar "fans" like myself.

"Kakutstha" was an ancestor of Rama and so Kaakutstha is an epithet for Rama, meaning one born in the family of kakutstha, (just as Raaghava is from Raghu).

In the MuttuTandavar piece, is 'tamizhpANA' the mudra or does it have anything to do with pAN's ? Can anyone explain this ? Thanks.
Is MD credited with creation of the Amritavarshini raaga via the Anandaamrita kriti ?

Chamatkara(pura) is another name for Tiruvarur.
Bhupala means "the King".

Krithi of the week this week at http://dikshitar.homepage.com is
Sri Subramanyo - Todi - D K Jayaraman
This page now has lyrics for some Ganapathi krithis of Dikshitar in Sanskrit (pdf format

on: Mon Sep 4 10:49:25 EDT 2000
Chamatkaara implies 'miracle'. The word appears twice in the Bhupalam kriti which also has sufficient 'Kamala' usages for the Tiruvarur shrine.

Nado:
In this context i think Chamathkara refers to Tiruvarur. Also Bhupala means the king.. Bhu - paala-One who takes care of the land of Chamatkara.

Narayanan, you are right. I expect there might be a fable or legend associated with Tiruvarur that allows this adjective. ( cf. camatkarapura in pallavi ) Perhaps Rajani or Paanini have details of this story.

Ganapati Krithis of MD in pdf format
Hi: I have sent to Narayanan, a Sanskrit file in pdf format in six pages (two columns) containing 27 MD Krithis (all I am aware of) on Ganesa, appropriately on Vinayaka Chaturthi season! Narayanan has kindly placed the file in the Dikshitar page http://dikshitar.homepage.com under "Krithis". Please have a look at them. You need the freely downloadiable "Adobe Acrobat Reader version 3.0 or higher, tov view/print them. You actually view/print the Sanskrit version. If I am missing any Ganesha Krithi of MD that you are aware of, please let me know, with lyrics, if possible, so that I can type them too - so we shall have complete text (in Sanskrit, as well as English), of all MD Ganesa Krithis. If there is need and interest, I can typeset another pdf file in English, with proper diacritical punctiation marks added, without any problem.
Hope to get some feedbacks.
I shall slowly create pdf files for Kamalamba, Neelothpalamba etc series soon (before Navarathri).
Thanks
Narayanaswami

PPN, What about Ganapate Mahaamate in Kalyani-rupakam ?
- From: Nadopasaka (@ akppp27.buffnet.net)

It would also be useful to demarcate where the 'madhyama-kaala' text begins, if this is not too much of a problem. Probably best done using a text color change. The mela numbers may also be noted as such. These are only comments.
I would especially like to thank PPN and Narayanan for their efforts. The original language format brings out pauses and sandhis etc. clearly.

thanks PPN & narayanan.(hope u repeat this for navarAtri).
Please check the skAndaM for the chamatkARa pura story.I think MD has done quite a lot of research here.referred to this and the particluar chapter when he says in one of the tyAgarAja krithis.
Just wondering..
Re Rame bharatha pAlija (jyothi) .The beginning seems like a Thy kind of approach.ie Why the rAjyam arpayAmi and who is supposed to say this.?

A Tyagaraja Begada in Tiruvotriyur to Tripurasundarai uses 'Bale Paalita SuraBale' . There are other MD-Tyg. krities that are somehow related e.g akshayalinga and Manasu svadhina both in s'bharana and the guru prashamsa krities in the starting raaga , MmGowla SriNathadi, Vidulaku.
I doubt if MD was referring to the miracle of his own birth in Tiruvarur, although this would certainly qualify the 'chamatkaara pura'.

ps. the Tyg. reetigowla BaaleBalendu also to Devi has a third charana beginning 'RamE, pranatartiharaabhi-ramE etc. ( and several rhymes with sheelE, durE, veerE, parivarE, bheemE, saarE, lolE etc. etc. )

Thanks for the comments/suggestions regarding the Ganapati krithis of MD in pdf format. I guess, as far as I know, the only krithi missing in that set is the Kalyani krithi : "Ganapate", which is often disputed! I am unable to find the text in any of the standard books on MD krithis. Does anyone have the text? If so, please post it here, so I can include it too, and update the file. Also, as Nado suggested, I shall try to indicate the place where the Madhyama kala sahityam starts.
I shall soon work on Kamalamba/Neelothpalamba/Abhayamba series just in time for Navarathri season.

PPN, The Kalyani Ganapati has one version as follows. Perhaps someone else can also confirm.
Pallavi: GanapatE mahAmatE, gowri kumAra mAm pAhi
Anupallavi: animAdyaStaiswarya prada guruguha pujita vara
Charanam:
Soma suryAgni netra ,sadAsivAnanda putra
vAmadevAdi vaktra , vArija gambhira gAtra
M-Kaala
HimAdrija sudhAmoda hiranmaya pithastitha
pAmara pandita nuta vara pankajAsanAdi nuta
There are at least two Kalyani krities to the male deity Kumbheswara, so the appearance of one for Ganapati may not be surprising. (typically the Kalyani krities are for Devi ) There may be other reasons for the debate on this kriti, however it certainly appears to be of the kind that MD would author, from the way it 'freezes' certain Kalyani phrases.
There may be some other textual arguments in favor such as it being the 8th (and final) kriti citing the (eight ) siddhis and the Himaadrija launch point for M-kaala found in some other MD Ganapati krities.

Nado: Thanks. This is the version that I have heard sung by M. Santhanam in a tape. If there is another version, perhaps, Lakshmanan can comment on. Thanks. Once the discussion is over, I shall include it in the pdf file and send it over to Narayanan.
