Nadopasaka _ Lakshman knows a lot - if he says so - he must have ample evidence - would like to know why "mohanam" is a bhaashanga raaga...
the only remote possibility that I could think of is the wrong usage of pradhdhi Madhyamam by some musicians :) including our own Maharajapuram ::)) I should not say usage - but you could listen to that pradhdhi madhyama note when he sings ({ma}pa; {ma}pa; {ma}papdhaa; pa ga riri - this would not classify the raga as Bhaashanga as it is a mistake :)
I do not know much about Dikshathar Sampradhaaya usage of the above mentioned ragas to say if he had used them as a Bhaashanga raga..
Lakshman??

Lakshman, Isai Rasigai , sorry for any confusion, I was basing my statements on the synflux site and this past posting.

Nadopasaka:
In bhashanga ragas one, two or three (maximum) foreign notes may be used. Ragas like Bhairavi, Kambhoji and Mukhari take one. Athana uses two. Hindustanikapi makes use of three. In the case of two or three foreign notes they may be from different melas. A raga like Bilahari uses the bhashanga note in sancharas only and not in the main scale.
You had asked why raga Mohana is placed in Harikambhoji mela rather than in Shankarabharana. It is because as a general rule a bhashanga raga is put in the first possible mela of the 72 melakarta system which, in this case, is Harikambhoji. Affinity to particular melas - example Malahari, suitable shrutis in the janya ragas and the history behind the development of the janya ragas are factors which determine the placement of a particular bhashanga raga. <
Gentlemen, there may be an older definition of Bhashaanga or Bhasha raagas, based on graha swara being different from starting swara. PP Narayanswami of Canada may comment. This could be the source of confusion.

I think Lakshman meant to say Janya raga.

Isai rasigai, Nadopasana & Sree:
Yes it was a typo on my part. While I was typing out the info on bhashanga raga, I wanted to answer a question that Nadopasaka asked on another thread and thus the error crept in. I did mean janya raga. Sorry for the confusion.

There is a discussion on the sangeetham.com site dealing with the older use of Bhashaanga distinction. One of the guys there showed how Madhyamavati was bhashaanga.
The synflux site should be corrected based on the consensus reached after checking their source.
