the pallavi sounds like Madyamavathi....usual ARR conspicously cofusing mixing of ragas!!!a lot many traces of Darbari Kanada too.....

U are right about the maestro....In Unnal Mudiyum Thambi...heroine's name is Lalitha so he has set the song in raga Lalitha....I have heard that Auradha Sriram had done a PhD. in IR's music....

Geetha, regarding rythm song "kaatre", it is kanada...but in the lines "thulli varum kaatre", ARR uses Ni2 Sa Ri2 Ma1, without Ga2. That probably set you thinking that it is sri raga. Just an effort to beautify perhaps...

Ram, when one plays the song, there is no use of Da1 and there is usage of Pa. That shud be sudhadhanyasi. I will check again anyway tonite.
And Ram, i was playing the Mahanadhi songs (Thai pongalum vandhadhu), it displays the swaras of Vakulabharanam. Sa Ri1 Ga3 Ma1 Pa Da1 Ni2 Sa (with anya swara Da2 prominently used). So it might be Vakhulabharanam with Da2 beautification. whats ur opinion?)

probably u are right abt kaadhalukku mariyadhai.....I'm not sure either but Hindolam and Sudhadanyasi are close cousins....will check it out.....

Probably "Chikkatha Chittonnu kaiyil vanth" in Sethu is also set to the same raga.....and most probably Sudhadanyasi.....I watched unnal Mudiyum thambi yesterday.....Even IR cannot repeat such a score.......Itz amazing how he uses absolutely classical ragas at unexpected stuations

Ram, regarding "kovil mani oosai" and another song that has similar confusion, namely "kaadhal mayakkam, azhagiya kangal thudikkum", there are confusions. I guess both are sudhasaveri. What do u feel? I am yet to try the kaasi song.

Purandara Dasaru is the Pitamaha of
Carnatic Music. This style of music originated in 15th century in Karnataka.

atlast I got a new american friend who is doing is Masters in music at my university.....I gave him "How to name it" and asked him to comment on it....he made me see new dimensions in that album.....for example in "I met Bach at my hhome" and "And We had a talk" U could see a lot of carnatic based phraces and if u notice keenly u can see a lot of WCM in the background all those western parts are scores of Bach's symphony it seems.....raja has composed it like a conversation where Bach speaks thro his symphony and Raja thro' carnatic music!!!!!

One correction it is not Bach's symphony but Bach's composition.......there was no symphonies during Bach's era

:-) Ram, i knew that there are so many ragas and that IR has composed it like a discussion he has with Bach. If u read the CD manual, it carries discussions on what ragas have been dealt with too. Hey, Ram, pls don't be upset anyway. :-). You have helped so much to build this list, and i believe u understand how much i appreciate your inputs :-)
