It will be nice for us all to discuss the various Carnatic concerts we attend during the year. I feel that it's a good idea to categorise this by year, starting with 1998, so that we can keep track of what, who saw in which year.

oops..sorry..I guess I cannot post a picture here! She is a disciple of T M Thiagarajan from what I read in a newspaper review. She is from Trivandrum but now lives in Madras apparently.

Vinod, can I suggest you start a new thread for your question? You will be more likely to get an answer as people will only look into this one if they want to see concert reviews

Ragamala - Ek taal- Swati Tirunal
Sohini Swaroop Kanha Mukh Tej deepa chandra
Chale chaal nat vibhas shrimallar van me.
Manirang guna foola baan ye man rahoon kanhar
Swaroop laage sarang man me
Gujari hindol jhoole jiyate adaana
Gode tero hi swarup shyam padmanabh tan me.
Rougly translated:-
His Enchanting form, Krishna’s face shines like the strong fire of the moon(cool)
Shri Mallar’s feet dances as he wanders in the forest
He has gemlike qualities
my heart remains bound by the flower arrows of Cupid
His Form strums the strings of my heart
The heart sways like a swing
(Sweet ?)It indeed is your dark form o shyam, , in Shri Padmanabha body.
The raga names Sohini, Manirang, Sarang, Gujari Hindol, Adaana, are added probably to indicate the ragas to be used.

Thanks so much for the lyrics and the meaning Indu - may I know the source for your lyrics ? I ask because of the many versions I have got, this one seems to have words that make the most correct sense comparitively.
And there are supposed to be some 11 ragas in this composition, but the one vocal rendition that I have just flits by each of those ragas. wonder if each line or phrase is meant to be elaborated in that raga while singing..otherwise all the ragas seem to blend into one except sohini, malhaar and Gurjari Hindol since they have pretty clear identities...
Thanks again,
Vinod

There is no single book of GKB's songs. There is a two part set titled Gopalakrishna Bharatiyar and Nilakantha Shivan kirtanaigal, S.Ramanathan's Nandanar charitra kirtanaigal and U.V.Swaminatha Iyer's Sangita mummanigal-all of these have GKB's songs. These should be available at Karnatic Music Book Centre, 14 Sripuram 1st street, Royapettah, Chennai 600 014. email: kmbc@eth.net

There is a Tyagaraja festival in Paris, at the "Espace St Martin", in october. I enjoyed it and plan to see the real one in south India, near Tanjore. Has anybody heard about it? When exactly?
