Just wanted to wish all of you a very happy Vinayaka Chaturthi.
I know that the trinity has composed songs on Ganesha but other than Mutthuswamy Dikshitar has anybody else composed a song especially for this occasion?

paanini, does this Tiruvarur vallabha ganapati have a devi on its lap ?
The Kanana stitha bramacarya Ganapati of Ganarajena is also a Tiruvarur kriti, also astangaYoga , astasiddhi (athana, Kalyani) re also Tyagaraja Mahadwaja etc.

The 28 MD krities (including now the Kalyani) may be written as follows. The first 16 MAY refer to the Tiruvarur Shodasa Krities. The 4 SamastiCharanas, though also in Tiruvarur may each refer to one of the first 16 forms. This might make sense but the trouble with this is that I am not sure if Begada is not a samasti charana. Madhyamakaala confuses the picture and it also has chitta swaras. Maybe PPN or others can comment.

Nado, I found the following story in the vinAyakar purANam ( author karthikeyan )which is a retold version in tamil of the upapurANa 'gaNes'a purANa' in sanskrit. ( I have translated from tamil to English here ).
Sage Marichi was one of the sons of Brahma. One day, when Brahma was in the company of all the Devas, Marichi asked him the name of that power, by whose leadership and influence the Trimurtis carry out their jobs of creation, protection and dissolution. Brahma replied that it was the power of Ganesa which guides the 3 murtis in their work. Marichi performed penances to please Ganesha and when Ganesha appeared before him to give him a boon, Marichi requested that Parvati should be born as his daughter and that he should give her in marriage to Ganesha. Ganesha granted this boon. (Scene 2:-) One day Parvati asked Shiva the root cause of all the movements in the Universe. Shiva replied that it is due to Him, Shiva as
the "nimitta" (cause) along with the association of Shakti, which is from Parvati and the assistance of "mahAmAyA", that all the movements take place. Parvati puffed up with pride on hearing Siva's answer and said that, it meant that as she was a part of Shiva, it was due to Her that all the movements occur. In order to bring down the arrogance of Parvati and in order to demonstrate nothing will move without Him, he arrested all the movements. Since everything came to a standstill, Parvati got scared and begged the pardon of Shiva. Shiva got pleased with Parvati; and he immediately created 11 crore Rudras, who went to TiruvidaimarudUr and offered Shiva prayers and worshipped Him on a ShivarAtri night. Shiva appeared before the Rudras and granted their boon that all movements should be restored. Vishnu and other deities started functioning and realised that they had not performed their assigned duties during their immobilisation They asked Shiva to tell them a method of getting absolved of their sin of omission. Siva said that it was not they, that should do the atonement, as it was He, due to Parvati's arrogance, stopped all the movement. Parvati understood the mind of Shiva
and asked him what she should do for expiation of her insolent remarks. Shiva asked her to assume the shape of a lotus and remain in the river Yamuna, on the banks of which Marichi's ashrama was situated., and she should change her form into a female infant, when Marichi looked at the lotus. Then Marichi would bring her up as his daughter. At the end, by the grace of Ganesha, Siva would marry her in the form of Ganesha, and fulfil he wish of Marichi.. Things happened as per the words of Siva. Marichi named the child
as "vallabhA", brought her up well and as per her wish constructed a place, where she could do Tapas to please Maheshwara. When Vallabha attained the age of 12, Shiva in the form of an old Brahmin appeared before her. After some teasing of Vallabha (who did not know who the old Brahmin really was) that he wanted to marry her and would not leave the ashrama, unless she agreed to fulfil his wish, the old Brahmin took the form of Ganesha and sought her hand from Marichi. Thus they got married and the boon of Marichi
fructified. So, Shiva, in the form of Ganesha that married Vallabha ( an incarnation of pArvatI ).
Well, this is the convoluted puranic story of vallabhA, ganesha, shiva and parvati.

S, thanks very much for the beautiful story. There is quite a lot of 'double' meaning, especially the incarnations and re-incarnations. The Athana line 'shashishekhara tanaya Naamarupadharam' also might coincides with this.
It is a great legend and both it and the krities of MD deserve the research put in. Retracing the footsteps of MD ( or trying to, at least ) is mighty interesting, with his sleshas , rhymes etc.
Thanks very much.

ps. also 'marici nigarbha yoginya; in Kmlmba punnagavarali.

Each of the following 9 Devi forms cite the 'yogini-yoginyaam' aspect in various MD krities.
Abhymba, Nilotpalamba, Akhilandeswari, Minaambika, Madhuraambika, sandhyaDevi, Nilaayatakshi, Kaamakshi AND the form commonly associated with Ganapati = Paarvati.
It is interesting to speculate if this concept is related to the Kmlmba Ahiri reference i.e. 'marici nigarbha yoginyaam'.
However such a usage does not appear for Lalitaambika, Tripurasundari or Balaambika.
