RaviKiran, I am not sure but there is a terrific Mukhari I might have heard, "Enta Ninne Varnintunu Shabari.."

i have heard the mukhari piece. it is terrific.
it is amazing how he can pack so much of bhava in a kriti.
by the way, the pallavi line is actually..."entani ne.." owing to the way singers join the two words, it sounds as "enta ninne".
his kokilavaraali "samukhaana nilva" is also spellbounding.

How about his Neerajakshi Kamakshi, a really wonderful rendering and also his Endraikku Siva Krupai.

I have heard as well a Merusamana MMgowla and Enta Vedukondu in Sar.Manoh. He was pretty old at the time of the rendition so the bhaava shines through more.
RaviKiran, It seems to me that like Ninne Nera Namminanu vs. Ninnene Raa Namminanu in Pantuvarali, this Enta Ninne might be capable of Entani Ne split. e.g. Ninne Bhajana in Nata. Perhaps some grammarians can comment.

the pantuvarali krithi is "ninne nera namminnanu" or "ninnu nera namminnanu" (meaning.."i have put my faith in you..")
it is wrong to sing it as "ninnene raa ..."
even in the naata, it is "ninne bhajana"..
'ninne' literally translated is "you only"
where as "entani ne varnintunu" meaning 'how can i decsribe...'
the 'ne' means 'I'. (entani = how, ne = I)

RaviKiran thanks, you are probably right. I do remember KVN singing it as ninnene raa. . 'Nin-ne' 'might' also result from Ninnu ne bhajana i.e. You !, 'I' pray to. Who are the prominent students of the Musiri line ? Is SSI one of them ?

SSI is not of the musuri school.
the leading members of the musuri lineage are vidushis mani krishnaswamy, suguna purushottam and suguna varadachari and vidwans tk govindarao and the rudrapatnam brothers.
smt mani krishnaswamy and sri tkg both are sangeetha kalanidhis.
so, seems like an illustrious lineage!
even my guru sri rk srikantan learnt many songs from musuri.

Although SSI is not a disciple of Musiri, he apparently admired him very much and speaks very highly of him in interviews etc. He credits Musiri with making the music profession "respectable", and says he modelled his early concert performances (including his dress!) on Musiri.

I heard Rudrapatnam brothers in Cleveland, uncommon Tyg. HariKamboji (LaaliLaali among others). They are closer to Raman-Lakshman than Alathurs.
This may be a digression. I have an unmarked tape with excellent veena renditions of Raghunaayaka (H'dhwani) and Etaavunara (Kalyani). Can anyone help with identifying the artiste ? Is it R. Pichumani ? Thanks.

the striking feature of musuri's baani is the inherent "soukhyam" in his singing.
i think no other singer , except KVN, could achieve such a "shaantam" in music.

Where in the Academy do you go to find the tapes? I asked the guy at the ticket counter about some previous releases by the Academy (Arunachala Kavirayar songs by the Academy students) and he had no clue that the Academy published recordings.
If you bought this tape from the retailers who have display kiosks in the hallway like Anand Musical Paradise etc, the tapes are available outside the Academy.

kk,
there is a small stall downstairs right near the entrance (against the plaque bearing the names of previous sangeetha kalaanidhis).
this is an exclusive academy stall and here they sell the souvenirs and old journals of the academy.
last year was the the centenary celebrations of Rajaratnam Pillai so they released a double tape of his. this time it is musuri.

There are also two wonderful pre-recorded tapes of musuri released this time.
they have an excellent todi (endu daaginaado), saaveri (etu namminaa) and other enthralling krithis.
these tw are available at stalls elsewhere too.
