I was just listening to Aruna Sayeeram rendering HMB's elegant Bhuvaneshwariya. First I've heard of Navagrahas of HMB, maybe someone can post the words ?

Thanks Lakshman, i guess this should be properly called the Vaara krities. No use of all seven Suladi sapta taalas even though HMB would have known of the MD kritis. Quite a few seem to begin with words from the MD Navagrahas.
Are there Navagraha sets by more recent composers e.g. Mukund, A. Madhav even BMK ?

IMHO, the genius of a composer is highlighted when he composes a krithi in a 'mattu' which is not presently in use.
in this context, many of sri HMB's works speak for themselves
take eg: 'ratna kanchuka dharini' (misra chapu, kambhoji).
there are very few known krithis in kamboji which are set to misra chapu (i can think of kailaasa naathena of MD only).
there are many such pieces of his.
there is also an adi tala taana varnam of sri hmb in andolika for which i have the notation.

Another instance of HMB's genius and thoughtfulness.Gurupriya is a raga attributed to him.His kriti in this raga is dedicated to his Gurunathar.Vachaspathi is another name for Guru(Jupiter). It was only natural for him to make Gurupriya a Janya Raga of Vachaspathi!Nir-Aushta(as already discussed in this forum) doesnt employ the Madhyama and Panchama(the only 2 swaras in whcih the lips meet) nor does the sahityaa employ the Madhy/Panch.It is an open-lipped kriti.

>>>nor does the sahityaa employ the Madhy/Panch<<< I guess u meant that the sahityam does not employ any syllable where the lips does ( eg ma, pa, ba, bha etc )
- apart from non-usage of madhyamam and panchamam in the rAga.
Ravikiran, apart from the Andolika varnam ( mahishasuramardani ), his varnams in mohanam ( manamohana ), shuddhadhanyasi ( sri rAjamAtangi ) also are rendered occasionally by TNS whose guru was HMB's disciple. I have also heard the nice ata tala hindola varnam of HMB.

This is In continuance of my previous psoting
The Subrahmanyam Stuti(BalaSubramanyam Bhajeham)composed ny HMB is in Raga Abheri
and a Janya of 20th Mela(Natabhairavi). Here, he entire kriti has been composed with
Shudha Dhaivatham instead of traritional Chatushruti variant.
In HMB's compositions on the Ashottatara Archnanas of Siva, the first kriti is in
Kalyani(Siva Siva Sambho SriKantha Vibho). This kriti uses panchama swaram
in the Sahityaa notation but in the Chittaswaram the Panchama has been deliberately
been omitted. This suggests that HMB wanted to give it the Yaman flavour.Prayogams like
MDNRNDM/NGRNRDNR with Shadjamam avoided are typical to Yaman. You would find
traditional Kalyani prayogam as well with pronounced traces of Shankarabharanam in the same
kriti.HMB seemd to have been fascinated by Durgaa. His Pashupatipriya is a firm step in
this direction.(SRMPMDS/SDPMRMS).The main sanchara for this raga is MDS/MPDM which is typical
of Durgaa. What is also noticeable is the use of the same prayoga (MPDM) in GaudaMalhar.
(Sri Jayadevi Chamundeswari/Sarasamukhi)are compositions in this raga. His Hamsanadham
makes use of Shatshruti Dhaivatham which makes it a Neethimathi Janyam.TNS's raga alapana
also indicates the Vivadhi swara quite strongly.

Nado>>I looked at your interesting observation "Quite a few seem to begin with words from the MD Navagrahas. "But again with a major difference.Consider the Kriti dedicated to Budhan and Shani.Shani has been referred to as 'Chaya devi priya tanayam' as against MD's Divakara Tanujam' and Budhan as 'Rohineyam budham' with nil reference to Chandran. This perhaps reflects a conscious effort on HMB's part to keep away form any controversies relating to the birth of Shani and budhan.Astrologically also,Shani and Diwakaran (Suryan) and Budhan and Chandran are enemies. What needs notice is that these kritis are meant to be sung in praise of the grahas and to propitiate them.Perhaps in that case HMB was better off.No offense meant to MD.I am just bringing out the vidhwat of HMB.Would love a response.
