Why don't you send a sample recording of your singing to SPICMACAY? I am sure that their address is available on the net somewhere.

There is Bhairavi and MIFAF. There are also C.Music Associations of Ohio/Georgia etc.,. Various organisers regularly post in rec.music.indian.classical newsgroup about available dates for visiting artistes. You may want to contact those folks. There is going to be Cleveland Tyagaraja Aradhana in the last week of April. It is a huge event. The individual singing competition is big. Perhaps you could participate in that and get "noticed". The website is www.aradhana.org.
Good luck to you in spreading our music.

Here is a thought.
Contact the folks at www.kutchery.com. They might be able to accomodate on of your past concerts into their online concerts. I believe they have a 'youth' emphasis this month. Last week aparna thiagarajan, this week G. Vidya etc.
Best wishes

You may be able to rent out recording space/equipment at either a school, vocational school, a University or one of the Temples near you. Befriend a student in the audio programs. They can do it as a term project and get a taste of good Carnatic music. Cost is likely to be nominal if you have your own handlers, sound people.

It occurred to me that another good set of contacts for US concerts are the Indian Student Associations in Universities across the US ( they are on the Web for sure ) . These folks are usually starved of concerts, even natives attend for 5-10 bucks a pop ( numbers need updating ) . Sometimes they coordinate the trips of big-name artistes from India with SPIC-MACAY. One of the college secretaries can put you in touch with the others in the circuit. e.g. UNC or Duke in your case ? Even if the univ. auditoriums are unavailable for whatever reason, some professors like and enjoy playing the role of 'patron of the arts' and you can set up the venues through them.
There are typically only one or two people that you have to convince of your 'paandityam' and skill, they'll do the rest on site.
Finding good or even mediocre accompaniment and coordinating timings is the real nuisance, as you already know.
You should also post your findings on these matters on the Hub.

Yet another thought on how to get performances !! This one is a bit weird, I admit, but it has some advantages. In many 'rock' or other pop-music concerts, there is usually a main band which is preceded in the performance by a 'lead' group, which is usually a younger and 'up and coming' one. Kind of like the Madras sabhas which go around the clock, only in this case you will have to 'piggy-back' on the main artistes draw. May even get to use their accompaniments and the logistics are already in place !! Get the organizers to give you an hour or so while the main guy warms up or something !! That way you don't compete for anyones 'entertainment dollar' immediately and also get exposure. Wonder if this 'double card' thing isn't already in place. It's used in comedy, boxing and rock/pop concerts. Somehow I think an artiste can get a kick out of being the 'top-card' while helping out the aspiring 'under-card' , no ?? ( hmmm..., maybe not... maybe they are all selfish egotists ?? ) Well that's my 22 cents worth.

nandini: Dont you have local THiagaraja Aaraadhanas etc? Why don't you teach music and get to know a few people interested in your singing! These parents(!) could be a great resource for you - they might even pool and organize your concert!
As Nado suggested, try Kutchery.com.
Something should work out...

Isai: In The local thyagaraja aradhana this yr in Feb....i sang two songs....Ilalo & Nannu vidachi. There were around ten interested people and the rest were there for diff.reasons.
I did teach....and will be teaching too!
As you say...let's see what works out!

N I know you learnt Amba Kamakshi , the Bhairavi swarajathi of SyamaS. with the greatest diligence. SyamaSastris guru Pachimiriam A. composed Viriboni, the equally famous Bhairavi varnam. Did you learn this also ? How do the two differ from your perspective ? Thanks for comments.

N or others in SE, the following is from an old thread.
>>>From: Ravi (@ wotan.wustl.edu) on: Sun Nov 21 21:21:51
My name is Ravi. I am trying to find someone who lives in the Southeast US who can give a concert on November 26. It does not matter whether it is North or South Indian as my family likes both. We had booked someone but she cancelled at the last minute and it is too late to fly anyone else in b/c we don't have 7 days advanced purchase. So we are desperately tring to find someone within driving distance to SC.
Even if we could find a good tabla and harmonium player, we can arrange for the vocalist. If you know anyone, it would be helpful. Please e-mail me with info. (veerar@msnotes,wustl.edu) Thanks <<<
