I know a few of you guys dont like this annointing buisness.But still I would like to know who in your opinion are the top five living vocalists and instrumentalists.

.We shall leave out SSI because it is assumed that he tops everybody's list.

Also what is the general opinion on artists like Unnikrishnan and OS.Thaigarajan.

My Top Five (vocalists) would be
ARI - For Kutchery Authority
GNB - For Raga Authority
DKP - For Krithi Authority
ALA - For Pure Classical Music

The fact that 5 out of the 6 of Narayanans impeccable choices are not with us, should give some pause to such 'top five living' list making. All of them were probably capable of inadequate days as well.

Folks, lets not get into this imbecile rating game. Each artiste is unique in his/her own merit.

One unrelated point: many of us on this forum have the habit of using acronyms and short-forms while discussing music and musicians. Let's be aware that there are a lot of interested but uninitiated folks out there who wouldn't understand some of these short forms and acronyms.

Now will you please tell me what is the general opinion of younger artists like Unnikrishnan,Bombay Jayshree etc.
(I think both of them show promise)

my sincere advice:
do not go to a concert with any sort of preconceived
notions about the artiste.
only then will you be able to appreciate any good
singer.

You see the problem is that I have not learnt music from anybody.So when somebody tells me that say X is good because of his/her wonderfull adherence to Shruti only then I really notice.

That is the original reason why I started this thread.I wanted to know who according to you guys were the promising youngsters.So i stressed on the word LIVING.
I mean we all know about the greatness of Ariyakudi's and the chambai's of this world.It would be nice to know if any young artist has shown as much promise to follow their footsteps
