His Tamil compositions are said to be Heavy, but not very many are sung.....I'd like to collect details of these and try and get them all. Any info, like books to buy, cassettes/CDs with anyone performing his compositions e.t.c..... Let me start this off: piravA varam thaarum pemaane in the Ragam Latangi, Tala Aadhi. I have Sudha raghunathan singing this. |

Yes. Nithyashree gave one CD titled 'Ithu Thano Thillai Sthalam'. It has around 10 songs of Gopalkrishna bharathi songs.

Gopalakrishna Bharathiar's greatest contribution to Carnatic Music is his "nandanAr sariththirak kIrthanai". I have this book that was published by Dr. S. Ramanathan. His compositions are purer in tamil than say Papanasam Sivan (whose compositions sound more like manipravAlam to me than tamil) ;-)
Anyway, some more of the popular songs often rendered in concerts include:

Tamizh Isai Sangham in Madras used to conduct competitions on Gopalakrishna Bharathiar songs severa years ago. My sister used to take part in those competitions and she has received the prize in that competition. I do not know if they still have those competitions. As a result, my sister learnt many of those songs listed in the thread. I enjoy those songs not only for the melody, but for the emotional appeal of those songs.

There is a rare piece in Jhonpuri
"Paarthu Pizhayungal" rendered by Sri D.K. Jayaraman. You can get this from old concert tapes.
"Thillai Thalam endru..." in Sama is another krithi which DKJ and DKP used to render.
Did u know that Gopalakrishna Bharathi lived in the period of St Thyagaraja. Once he sang the krithi "Sabapathikku veru..." in Abohi in the presence of St Thyagaraja and asked him if he had written any krithi in Abohi. St Thyagaraja then composed the krithi "Manasunilpa Shakti Leka Pothe" in Abohi that very evening.

I have the lyrics for both Tiruvadi and Kadaikkan. They are on a floppy and it takes too long to retype the song out here. Besides Kadaikkan is a long song. By the way this song is not by Papanasham Shivan but by Ramasvami Shivan.

Hi
recently i listened to TM Krishna rendering a part of nandhanar songs byGB on an Amudham CD. It has been rendered very emotionally, reflecting
the Bhava of the native character and the composer. iunderstand Amudham is going to bring out a series on that.
does anybody have a life sketch of this savant?

"Amutham"has released a CD of Nityashree and it has " Thiuvadi Charanam "also. But to me Musiri's
rendition is still matchless. The Bhava is brought out in full ,I think.
