How do different gharanas think of the properties of sound? In other words, are there simply timbre, technical, and stylistic differences, or or there more philosophical differences regarding the nature of sound? Are some gharanas considered more spiritual in nature, and does that affect their approach to the production of sound? How important is sound when considering other aspect of a gharana style, such as laya, tala, raga choice, etc. In particular, I am interested in tabla gharanas, but any instrumental or vocal gharana or style will help. I am working on a research paper dealing with this topic. I need to compile information soon, so any names or websites that would help would be greatly appreciated.
