if you want tabs or chords go to www.maxtabs.net and click guitar or bass or drum tabs they have a great selection that are rated and you can post comments on weather they did the chords or tab right this might help some of you. Smashing Pumkins 1979 is deffinality in there!

Hi,
Seeing as nobody has answered this, here goes.. and hope this helps the newbies.
There are any number of sites on the web where you can learn chord theory and music theory. There are also any number of sites that provide guitar tablature.
The best site for tablature is the OnLine Guitar Archive or OLGA at www.olga.net
If you want pictures of the fingerings required for chords, buy the book by Mel Bay called "mel Bay's guitar chords"... Extremely useful and you SHOULD have it.

As a continuation to my earlier post, if you do need "finger positions" for chords, you need to learn guitar tablature and how to read it. You can learn more about it at http://www.willlandrum.com/readtablature.shtml which is just one of the many sites I came across when I ran a search for the same on Google.
That's the easiest way to learn finger positionings. A short "tutorial" follows:
This assumes you are a right handed player.
The numberings shown for the fingers are:
Index finger: 1
Middle Finger: 2
Ring Finger: 3
Little Finger: 4
Now the guitar neck is usually labeled thus:
---------|---------|---------| E (1st string)
---------|---------|---------| B
---------|---------|---------| G
---------|---------|---------| D
---------|---------|---------| A
---------|---------|---------| E (last string)
Fret 1 Fret 2 Fret 3
Frets ----------------->
So to depit the Cmaj Chord we can show it as:
---------|---------|---------| E (1st string)
----1----|---------|---------| B
---------|---------|---------| G
---------|----2----|---------| D
---------|---------|----3----| A
---------|---------|---------| E (last string)
Fret 1 Fret 2 Fret 3
Where 1 2 3 are the positions of the Index, middle and ring fingers respectively.

Hi Sarah and Ashley,
I don;t think guitar can really be taught by a few posts on the web. There are a number of sites on the web that provide some level of instruction. I personally, learnt the guitar initially by buying Mel Bay's guitar chords book (it shows photographs of how the fingers should be positioned).
Try a search on google for "Learn Guitar" and check out the number of sites on the web for that.
There is a site called Riff interactive, which provides LIVE, INTERACTIVE lessons.. a fabulous site... unfortunately, nowadays, you can't really get all the archived lessons unless you pay for it.. about 3-4 years ago, you could go back to the earliest lessons and learn from them. Not anymore though.
I am wondering if I shouldn't start a site for people to learn to play the guitar.. at least the basics... if enough people are interested.. hmmm I might even give it a shot.
