logical way to reach particular swara

Hi, I am new bee learning carnatic music. Is there any way to memorize the three sthanas of the Gandharam, Madhyam, daivatham and nishadam? Because I am not able to find out the differences between one to other form of a particular swara? Please someone help me out...
