Sorry, I am afraid you can learn Carnatic music(in general) from Lowell without knowing how much sense of Carnatic music that you have already Gayathri. I feel you have to make do with your way of life with the people surrounding you.

I live in Maryland and learn music from Guru Usha Char. She teaches only carnatic vocal, and not any instruments. You can reach her @ 301-924-2651 or email her @ rtinc@erols.com. I know couple of other teachers also who teach music and instruments like veena, violin and mrudangam, but not flute. Infact, I'm also looking for one who can teach flute for my husband.

I have heard someone learning flute in Maryland area. But I don't know who teaches. And I have lost touch with the source.

In Boston area, I guess there is a person called Durga who teaches Veena. (I am not very sure of the name). Contact Mr.Ramnath who also lives in Boston area (his info can be found in the above url) or the New England Hindu Temple, and he/they maybe able to give you some pointers.

ARSridhar sir and Balaji sir, I do not quite understand about the development that is taking place in this world but if I say that I want to learn Veena from San anselmo, then what will be your answer? Based on your answer, and the further developments, I will decide whether to seriously think of either learning flute or veena or neither. Please take it easy. Regards. Where is ash land? in calif or mass? I heard it near horseland? is it incorrect? Explain in detail.

Finding a Flute Teacher is rare. There used to
be on man in our area who played flute. But, I haven't seen him in a few years now. If I can find his whereabouts, I'll post it on this forum.
