i recently read "riding a runaway horse" on the rise and fall of wang labs, a pioneer in the IT industry. the book is well researched and more importantly interestingly written. there are hardly any instances where the author's own opinions
are expressed. the book chronicles the life of an wang, an immigrant chinese, his accomplishments, his ego, arrogance, vision et al. his decision to make the company a family heirloom cost him dear and the once darling of the customers and wall street sank into oblivion.
the main characters are an wang, john cunningham (the man who built the marketing and PR side of wang labs) and fred wang ( the eldest son of an wang).
is available for Rs.295/- at fountainhead, chennai (hardbound edition). a must for anybody seriously interested in the evolution of IT.
