i am very concerned about some thing. i have read richards books and was moved by his words. but what hit me was that i did know all of it before and wondered why it was so hard to listen to myself. anyway i have went through alot of the sites related to mr.bach and became concerned for the reason that alot of people that wrote on these sites seemed to worship him! now i do like him alot and think he is a great writer but he is no god. he is a soul like the rest of us. i would like to know if anyone else has noticed this.
Draygo...

Only slaves have Masters!
People need someone to follow, someone to dictate them how to live and define everything for them (like what a Soul Mate is)
Do you think Richard Bach got to where he is by following someone else or by following himself?

To David Bluestein: Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings - I, too, share them same. I have grown with Richard Bach. My theme in life has always been " Discovering Possibilities". You never know what may become when you keep yourself open to those possibilities. Thoughtfully, Deb Abbott

I just stumbled across this site and found all of the comments about Richard Bach interesting. Although I haven't sold as many books as Richard (by a long shot!), I am also an author who writes books about trying to understand life and issues that transcend what our physical senses can teach us. I find it perfectly normal that Richard can write about issues like finding the perfect soulmate and then end up divorcing her. I think you can intellectually understand something and even teach it to others and not be able to do it yourself. And as we all know, circumstances change, people change, preferences change, everything changes and we end up making life adjustments that we didn't anticipate. I think Richard is right on target with the concepts in his books. I know what it is like to read your own book and think...I wish I could be like that. He does what great authors do best...he writes thought provking books that help people figure out things on their own. I plan to keep reading and re-reading them and learning from his words regardless of what happens in his personal life. He has offered a great gift to all of us and I'll bet he often wonders where it came from as much as some of us do.

Bravo Chris. I couldn't have said it better myself. The way that I view Leslie and Richards divorce is the same way I view my own. We are all on the never ending journey of life. If we are not contiunally growing, we aren't living. There divorce can be viewed as an extension of there growth.

I am glad to see a recent response. I was worried that people had forgot about this site. There are many things yet to be said I am sure.

Hi people.
I have read all your responses and found it mostly interesting. I was wondering if any of you knows how to reach Richard on the Web or by mail. He doesn't seem to have a site or Email...
Please write me if you have any info regarding the subject...

A good book allows me to escape, if only for a few hours, the troubling weight of reality. When the story has ended I find myself empty, longing, sad.
A great book affords the same wonderous escape, but in its reading, chapter through chapter, I am taught and reminded how to joyously leave the book behind.

Unfortunately, Richard Bach, apparently, does not wish to interact with his many fans. In contrast, Ray Bradbury, 81 years of age, answers all of his fan mail, AND is involved with movie and play production, and still gets out on the lecture circuit despite his infirmities.
However, I am forever grateful to Richard for having been the conduit by which I got to meet and correspond with Ray Bradbury over the past 35 years.

Doesn't want to interact with his fans?
Hardly. Heck, I had dinner with him with a bunch of his fans from his forum on CompuServe about 8 years ago when he, and they, flew into Salt Lake for a sort of "Internet get-together."
Credit where it's due.

Just wandering thru internet land. I am always amazed at the response Rich still gets from his books. I too responded 20 years ago or so...we corresponded for years and he encouraged me in my own writing and flying pursuits. I fly less and write more, publish more now.
I got involved in life; R & L got involved in theirs...so we lost touch -- people, be they authors, actors, stamp collectors...all have lives, some more or less private. Sometimes our lives contain moments we can share; sometimes our lives contain only moments of fond rememberance. Some of us have found ways to share through what we write. That's a pretty effective and lasting act of love - that kind of sharing...
He is my friend; Leslie is my friend. I am their friend...We are your friends...Will always be. After all, there is no such thing as far away.

I have a very special friend who has identified his life with Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I want to give him a most special birthday present this summer which is a beautiful picture of a seagull. I would love to have Mr. Bach sign the picture since this story has been such an inspiration in my friend's life. Does anyone know how I could contact Mr. Bach (i.e. email or website)?

Although I agree with most of the comments posted here. I find it difficult to digest the fact that most people try to live by the book.In a way trying to be Bach themselves. The fulcrum of every individual's life is different from the other and trying to be someone else is mere idiocy.
Bach is a great author. It's a good book enjoy it, Don't try to analyze it in deep.
To put in bach's words “There are no mistakes. The events we bring upon ourselves, no matter how unpleasant, are necessary in order to learn what we need to learn; whatever steps we take, they're necessary to reach the places we've chosen to go.”
Chris I agree with you after all we know what happened to bach's marriage.
