Hi Retsina,
I read the Alchemist and loved it. I've just ordered By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept, but I know little about Paulo Coelho, except what I read on the review at Amazon.com: that Coelho is "considered to be one of the most widely read Latin American writers in the world".
Also, according to Amazon.com, other Coelho books include:
The Pilgrimage : A Contemporary Quest for Ancient Wisdom
The Fifth Mountain
The Valkyries
Veronika Decides to Die

I read all Coelho's books...He is my favorite author and it is trully an artist!! Every story relatates one with the other and he uses each character of each novel to explain something in the others. It is amazing how every book relates with one and the other! I love Coelho and he is the best author...another thing is that I read all these books in Spanish and the meaning sometimes changes, but I recommend you to start with The Alquimist and after that one read Brida, Veronika decises to die, and dont leave to the end The Fifth Mountain!!!
ENJOY!!!!!! I DID!!!!

I've read "the Alchemist" and shared it around the office. Then I bought and read "Veronica decides to die" and found out that weather one despises the author or admires him, one cannot be indiferrent to his writting.

i just finihed " the devil and miss prym " and i must say this book got me thinking about good and evil..... there r several anecdotes tht really get u thinking ....... there r instances when he implies tht people r essentially evil and tht they refrain from doing evil only because of fear of others........ altogether a wonderful book...... worth enough to be placed alongside "alchemist"

I have read only the Alchemist and if it is any measure to go by, I would say that Paul Coehlo is an excellent writer. Of course, the actual lengths to which I can praise him is little less. His books are all translations into english. But even then, his books are not renowned for their literary eloquence but the themes. I would recommend Paul Coehlo as one of the best authors any time of the day. As far as alchemist goes, it is about a boys road to fulfill his dreams. A very inspiring novel.
