i think that you are all incorrect i think this book is really wonderful and offers a range of vocabulary in many different ways.if billy was a real boy im sure you would find him very attractive and would love him to bits.

i am a teacher actually and i think this book sucks too but we are forced to teach it coz its on the nashunal curriculum so its gotta be done so dont blame the teachers coz we is just doin it for the money and the holidays so ha ha you suckaz in my day exams woz much easier coz we had 100% courswork so u cud get your mum or dad 2 do all your cw then get an A!!! sorry guys

The book may be hard to get into, but it's worth reading. That's because reading in itself is a GOOD thing, but you don't get that do you???
The reason none of you like it is because 1) you can't understand the concept of DIALECT unless you hear it out loud, 2) you have no imagination and 3) you are plainly very stupid.
Of course this comment does not relate to those of you who can understand the message and concept of the actual story. The fact that you have no EMPATHY (look it up) or SYMPATHY for the main character shows how dull minded and ignorant you all are. I hope you all fail your GCSEs. By the way, kids like you are the reason teachers resign. Of you go and glue your eyes to your mobile phones now kiddies.

i hav read up 2 page 45 its rubbish but i will hav 2 read it cause i want a pass in my english GCSE its as borin as hell but i need 2 read it. any way its gd 4 a read in bed cause it gets u straight 2 sleep. if u think its porn and u will get it finshed!!! 4 once the teachers right!!!

Because I want an a in my exam I've read this bloody book 3 times already. It's the biggest loada shite i've ever read (no offence Barry Hines) and all my teachers agree. But personally, i find the exam questions much easier than the ones my mates get for Lord of the Flies so I'm just gonna grit my teeth n carry on.........only 3 more weeks to go! xx

please help because i need a website too and my exam is tomorow:( i understand both sides of the argument, personally i find the texts of my frends a lot more intresting eg. of mice and men or educating rita, and i dont understand why the whole country cant do the same txtt coz it wud be a lot fairer and then nobody cud complain because we'd all be in the same position. i find this book to be very descriptive and i wud not dismiss it as readily as sum of u have although i feel, for a gcse text you have to be interested in the thing you are wrting about in order to be able to produce a good answer if u see what i mean, who agrees?

Hi
I read "kes" as a kid; I am re-reading it now. Here is maybe a step to enjoying it:
Hines was trying to write a book at how difficult it is for kids to learn, to put up with adult disinterest and boring lessons. Hines tries to show how much school and society seem to hate youth and leave them without help. Billy is a hero because he finds his own passion (for the kestrel) and teaches himself something, not caring whether anyone around him is bothered.
He would probably nod in agreement with anyone who has posted here that hated the book; I reckon he wrote it for you.
Anyone studying it, enjoying it or hating it: goodluck.
